Intercultural Development Assessment

The Intercultural Development Inventory® (IDI®) is used with individuals and groups to assess the core mindset regarding diversity and cultural difference.

These attitudes can influence personal, professional, and group effectiveness in today's multicultural environment.

The IDI is a developmental-focused tool. It helps individuals and groups reflect on cultural awareness and sensitivity, so that further intercultural development can be facilitated.

The IDI is a 50-item, theory-based, statistically reliable and cross-culturally valid measure of intercultural competence.  It is adapted from the Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity and is available in 12 languages. It can generate an in-depth graphic profile and detailed textual interpretations of intercultural competence levels.

The Intercultural Development Inventory can be used for a wide variety of purposes, including:

  • Individual assessment in coaching and counseling situations
  • Group analysis in team building efforts
  • Team and organizational-wide needs assessment for training design
  • Program evaluation to assess the effectiveness of various interventions
